How it Works

Families Connect is a better way to connect with your family digitally. With photo sharing, long-form stories, and an uncluttered easy-to-use interface, it’s the better choice for connecting with those who matter most.

Unlike other social networks that are focused on immediate, short snippets of content, Families Connect is focused on providing a tool for families to share meaningful content about their lives in a private environment.

You already have a social network? Of course, you do. But what about those private family moments? Starting a new business, dealing with a family illness, just sick of seeing your “friends” content.

  • Getting Started

  • Creating Your Families Connect Account

    Creating Your Families Connect Account

    • You can easily create an account in the Families Connect application, by clicking here.
    • Then, enter your email address and a secure password.
    • The email address that you use when creating your account will be your username.
    • Your password needs to be at least eight characters long and contain one number.
    • You cannot merge families from accounts set up with different email addresses so make sure you use your preferred email address when setting up your Families Connect account.

    • Now that you have an account, the next thing you should do is create a family.
    • Once you have signed up you will be asked to "Create a Family."
    • Choose any description you want for your family.
    • You can create more than one family within your Families Connect account.
    • You can change the name of your family at any time.

  • Managing Your Notifictions

    Managing Your Notifications

    • You can't turn off notifications entirely, but you can adjust what you're notified about and how you're notified.
    • Update your notification preferences by checking or unchecking the actions you preferred to be notified about within your user profile.
    • Update your notifications on your profile page.

    A memory is a collection of pictures, stories, videos and recipes all related to a single event.

    Add Content To Your Family

    • If you are ready to add content to a particular family, then click the + button in the top right corner of this page. 
    • You’ll be shown the create content menu where you can decide the content type you would like to create.

     

  • Creating a Family Memory

    Creating a Family Memory

    • Memory is a collection of pictures, stories, videos, and recipes all related to a single event.
    • Name your memory with a title, location, and date.
    • Choose a photo file to represent this memory on your family page.
    • Once you’ve uploaded your photo and filled in the details for your memory, hit the submit button and you will have successfully created your first memory.

    To Add Another Memory To Your Family Dashboard

    • Again click the + button in the top right corner of this page.
    • You will return to the create content menu where you can decide to create another memory.

    • Click the + button in the top right corner of this page.
    • You will return to the create content menu.
    • From this menu select the Add Photos tab.
    • Name your photo with a title, location, and date (dates are optional).
    • Once you’ve uploaded your photo, filled in the details for this photo select the memory with which you want this photo associated from the drop-down, then click the submit button.
    •  Selecting a memory is optional; if you don't select a memory; the photo will be included on your family page and in the photo's section of your Families Connect account.
    • You will have successfully added a photo.
    • You can continue to add more photos by selecting the Add button (+)

     

  • Adding Videos To Your Memory

    Adding Video On Families Connect

    • You can attach videos your YouTube account or by uploading them directly into the application.

    If Uploading (Not Using YouTube)

    • Select the family you would like to upload the video into from your families list.
    • Then click the + sign in the top right corner
    • Click on the Add Videos tab
    • Name your video with a title, location, and date (optional).
    • Select the Memory that you want to associate with this video (optional).
    • Click Choose and then select the video file you want to upload.
    • The file type must be .mp4 or .mov less than 100MB and at least 3 seconds in duration.
    • Then click "post my video."
    • You will have successfully added a video.
    • You can continue to add more videos by selecting the Add (+) button

    If Using YouTube

    • Don’t have a YouTube account? Click here to get instructions.
    • Select the family you would like to upload the video into from your families list.
    • Then click the + sign in the top right corner
    • Click on the Add Videos tab
    • Name your video with a title, location, and date (optional).
    • Cut/Copy/Paste the Share URL of your YouTube Video into the YouTube URL field.
    • You have the option of selecting a different photo to represent this video on your memory page.
    • Follow this link for more information regarding privacy settings for your video.
    • Once you’ve added the YouTube URL of your video, filled in the details for this video milestone, select the memory you want this story associated with from the drop-down (optional), then click the Post Your Video button.
    • You will have successfully added a video to your memory.
    • You will have successfully added a video.
    • You can continue to add more videos by selecting the Add (+) button
  • Adding Stories (Articles)

    Adding Stories

    • Keep track of your family anecdotes and tales using Families Connect Stories.
    • Stories are essentially blog posts, articles, or content areas where you can share the details of a particular memory.
    • Select the family where you would like to share your story.
    • Click the + button in the top right corner of this page.
    • From the next page select the Tell Stories tab.
    • Name your story with a title, location, and date (optional).
    • Choose the memory with which you want this story associated from the drop down; this is optional. You can always edit your memory or assign a memory to your story later.
    • Then, select a photo to represent your story on your memory timeline.
    • When you are ready, click the Post Your Story button.
    • You will have successfully posted your story.
    • Access your story in the story section of your Families Connect account.
  • Adding Recipes To Your Memory

    Adding Recipes To Your Memory

    • Don’t lose your family’s recipes with this great feature.
    • Add ingredients, directions and a photo.
    • Choose the family who will see this recipe.
    • Click the + button in the top right corner of this page.
    • From this next page select the Share Recipes tab.
    • Name your recipe with a title, location, and date.
    • Choose the memory with which you want this story associated from the drop down; this is optional. You can always change the memory you associate with this recipe later.
    • Select a photo to represent your recipe on your memory timeline.
    • Add a list of the recipe ingredients and add instructions.
    • When you are ready, click the Post Your Recipe button.
    • You will land on your recipe’s detail page.
    • To see this story on your memory timeline navigate to your memories dashboard by selecting the recipe icon from the left-hand navigation.
    • Then, choose the memory you associated the recipe with from the drop-down.
    • If you did not select a memory, then your recipe will be on your family dashboard.
  • Connecting With Your Family
    Family members can build their personal family pages, and can share their pages with a circle of friends and family members selected by them.

     Your Family Connections Page

    • The CONNECTIONS page is the page you will use to add new families, delete families, and switch between different family dashboards.
    • You can switch between families by clicking MY FAMILIES at the top of the page.
    • Every user's connections page will include the families they have created and the families they have been invited to.
    • Add a new family to your CONNECTIONS page by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on the ADD ANOTHER FAMILY button.

    Connecting With Others

    • Adding Connections
    • Now that you’ve got some content in place, the next thing you need to do is invite friends and family to be members of your family album.
    • Click on the CONNECTIONS link in the side navigation of the application.
    • On your CONNECTIONS page, you can invite your friends and family members to view your content within the security and privacy of Families Connect.
    • Once your friends and family have accepted your invitation, they’ll be able to view your content and create a family album of their own.
    • Your family and friends will be able to add content to your album and make comments on the content you and other families members add to the family page.
    • Your friends and family will also be able to invite you to be a connection to any albums they create.
    • Make sure your family and friends have the email address you registered with Families Connect.
    • If you receive an invitation through a different email address you have not registered with Families Connect you will need to contact the host who invited you and ask them to invite you at the email address with which you registered your Families Account.
    • You cannot combine logins. If you have created duplicate accounts, you can contact Families Connect Support to have one or all of your Families Connect Accounts deleted.

     

  • Your Connections Page - Families You Are Invited To

    Families You Are Invited To

    • If you did not create the family, but you were invited to it, then you cannot edit the family members. You can, however, contribute content to that family album.
    • You can remove yourself from any family you've been invited to by clicking on the REMOVE YOURSELF button.
    • After you have removed yourself from a family you were invited to you will no longer see that family on your CONNECTIONS page.
    • Afer removing yourself, if you would like to be added back to that family you will need to have one of the family members reinvite you back into the family.

     

  • Family Connections - Families You Create

    Families You Create

    • If you are not the original creator of the family you can not edit the family
    • If you created the family, you would be able to
      • Edit that family
      • Add new family members
      • Remove existing family members
      • Delete the family
      • Change the name of the family

    On The Connections Page

    • Create another family by clicking on the CREATE ANOTHER FAMILY button
    • The MY FAMILIES family includes all of your family connections and content including families you have created and families you have been invited to join.
    • Edit a family you have set up by clicking on the name of the family.
      • Click ADD A FAMILY MEMBER to add a contact to your family
      • Click RENAME THIS FAMILY to rename your family
      • Click REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THIS FAMILY to leave a family
        • You cannot undo this action. The owner of the family will need to reinvite you to the family for you to participate on this family page.

    Nudge Inactive Family Members

    • If a family member has not accepted your invitation to join your family, you can nudge them.
    • When you nudge a family member, they receive an emailed reminder that you are reminding them to accept your family invitation.
    • If you created the family, you would be able to DELETE that family by clicking on the EDIT button next to the name of the family you want to remove, then following the instructions to delete your family.
    • Expand a family by adding another member to your family.
    • First, click the + ADD CONNECTIONS button under the name of your family.
    • Add the email address of the family member you would like to invite, then send.
    • This family member will now show up on your CONNECTIONS page as a blank avatar with the email address you used to invite them.
  • Accepting a Family Invitation

    • If you received an email from Families Connect alerting you that someone has added you as a connection to their family album you can accept their invitation to see their photos, videos, stories, memories, and recipes.
    • After clicking on the “Accept Invitation” link in the email, you’ll need to set up and confirm a password. Your email will act as your username.
    • This step activates your Families Connect account and takes you to the homepage for the family album you’ve been invited to join.
    • Scroll through their content or use the side navigation to filter their content by topic.

    Your account profile is your personal Families Account information.

    • Your profile includes you Families Connect settings and personal information.
    • To setup and edit your personal profile click on the blank avatar
    • Then click the EDIT button.

    • You can upload an image for your avatar, set your name and location and fill out your bio.
    • Be sure to select the notification settings that align with how frequently you want to be alerted by the Families Connect app.
    • Don’t forget to save your changes.
    • If you need to edit any of this information, you can return to this page and your notifications setting by clicking on your avatar > then the EDIT button.
  • Using Families Connect
    Once you have uploaded photos, videos, stories, memories or recipes, invite your loved ones to your private family album.
  • Viewing Different Content Types

    Viewing Different Content Types

    The side navigation of the application is how you can view all or some of your content. Here’s a breakdown of the icons and links and what they do:

    The Home - Dashboard Icon on Families Connect 

    HOME: Takes you to your album landing page with all of your content

    The Calendar Icon on Families Connect 

    MEMORY: Filters your content to only show your memories

    PHOTOS: Filters your content to only show your photos

  • Editing & Deleting Content

    Editing & Deleting Content

    • You can edit or delete any content you’ve created.
    • On memories, stories, and recipes, just click on the EDIT or DELETE buttons that appear at the top of each post’s page.
    • To edit Photos and Videos, click on the EDIT button that appears in the bottom right corner of the post’s window.
    • This click will take you to the photo or video detail page.
    • You can delete the photo by clicking on the DELETE button at the top of the page or CHOOSE to upload a new photo file.
    • You must be the owner of the memory, photo, video, recipe or story to delete it.

     

     

  • Connecting With Multiple Families

    Connecting With Multiple Families

    • At the bottom of your CONNECTIONS page, you can click on the “Create Family” and create another family album.
    • For each family that you create you will need to add content and connections.
    • These multiple families feature an excellent opportunity to have albums for your immediate family, your sorority sisters, or any group with whom you want to stay in contact.

    Viewing Multiple Family Albums

    • To change the family album you’re looking at, click on the family name or family icon at the top of the page. A drop-down of your families will appear.
  • Editing And Deleting Comments

    How do I delete or edit a comment I posted?

    To delete a comment you posted:

    • Hover over the comment and click
    • Select Delete...
    • Click Delete

    To edit a comment you posted:

    • Hover over the comment
    • Select Edit...
    • Make your changes and then select "Modify My Comment"
  • How Do I Delete Content?

    How Do I Delete Content?

    Keep in mind that once a photo is deleted, you won't be able to get it back. You can only delete content that you've uploaded. If you want someone else's content removed from Families Connect, ask the person who posted it to take it down or notify inappropriate content to us using the Families Connect Support form.

     

    To remove your content from Families Connect:

    • Click on the "..." at the corner of the content you want to delete
    • Click DELETE
  • Can I Share Content on Facebook?

    Share Your Photos On Facebook

    • Share photos you post on Families Connect to Facebook easily while maintaining your family page privacy.
    • For privacy reasons, only the author of the Families Connect photo can share it on Facebook. If you are not the author of the photo, the option to share it on Facebook will not appear.
